Footings: The foundation begins

Sunday morning Terry and I went over to the lot with:

  • Two white sage sticks
  • Palo Saint wood sticks
  • Holy Water (have to keep the Catholic mom involved)
  • Ashes from Izzy and Maddie
  • 5 rocks that had value to us
  • Intentions and prayers that we had written down

We wanted to have a ceremony of sorts to banish the property of any lingering energies that no longer belonged there. We wanted to have a fresh start with this land and this space. We wanted to honor our own journey of getting to this place. The building of this house has metaphors galore. We wanted this foundation to reflect the foundation of our relationship- rooted deep and strong. So we set honored stones on the corners of the lot, and one very precious one we buried in the middle of the house. We lit sage and Palo saint wood and smudged every corner. We dispersed ashes and holy water. We read outloud our intentions, our gratitude, our visions and then let them burn into the air- up into the divine.

The next morning Juan from B&D foundations and his crew were on site setting up frames and rebarb for the footings. By 2 o'clock they were poured. And so, begins from below ground upward, this amazing space that we will call home.
